Robot Round-Up at the State Fair

The Robot Round-Up is great opportunity for 4-H Robotineers to show off their building and programming skills at the Mississippi State Fair. 4-H’ers may work in teams of 2-3 youth to build a robotic animal to “show” at the State Fair. The Robot Round-Up is located in State 4-H Village.

There are three age groups:

Level: Robot Type: Age:
Group 1 Baby Animals (WeDo Robots) 5-7 yrs old
Group 2 Any Animal (NXT Robots) 8-13 yrs old
Group 3 Any Animal (NXT Robots) 14-18 yrs old

All levels will be ranked and all levels will have a “Best in Show.”

Please bring your robotic animal to the State Fair 4-H Village on October 17, 2015. Check-in begins at 8:30 A.M. and will continue until 9:30 A.M. Judging starts promptly at 10:00 A.M.Youth are not required to stay with the robotic animals during judging.However, they are encouraged to present their robot to the judges. Robots must be picked up by 12:00 P.M.

Robots are available to check out on a first come first serve basis.You may contact Mariah Smith at mariah.s.morgan@msstate.edu or through your 4-H agent to sign-up for a robot.

  1. You may start signing up September 1st at 8:00 A.M. Once you have signed-up, you may pick up the robot at any point in time after that.
  2. Building instructions and programming instructions will be made available either by e-mail or posted to the Facebook page (find us at Mississippi Bots) if requested.
  3. All judging will be based on a rubric. You can find a link to the rubric on the Facebook page or request via e-mail.

  5. Please bring your robotic animal to the State Fair 4-H Village on October 17, 2015.   6. You may decorate your robot or provide a backdrop provided the decorations do not permanently mark the robot.
